Classes are dedicated to families with young children aged 0-6 years and are based on the theory of music education by E.E. Gordon and on the implementation of "live" music, largely improvised. By means of rhythmically and tonally varied chants and rhymes in typical and unusual meters, children are listening to the richness of sounds and rhythms naturally entering the world of music.
The classes are attended by up to 15 children and their guardians, and their duration does not exceed 45 minutes. Classes are conducted in the form of spontaneous play with the help of colorful props used to visualize musical stories. All musical activities are accompanied by movement. Meetings are aimed at educating a young man aware of listening to music, developing the imagination and supporting motor coordination that is so important for the child's development.
The most important goal of teaching according to E.E Gorgon's theory is the ability to audiate or understand music - musical thinking. Huge meaning is therefore not only pure singing and sense of rhythm, but also a smooth, continuous body movement depicting musical motifs, as well as moments of silence, thanks to which children can make musical insights. Teaching takes place through play with the use of, among others, colorful tissues, balls, soap bubbles, Klanza Sheet or other functional items that support the whole of the musical dialogues with children.
Natalia Wicher - MA in Philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy and History of the University of Lodz and a graduate in Culture Management at the Institute of the Theory of Literature, Theater and Audiovisual Arts at the University of Lodz. Participant of the first degree Gordon course "I improvise, so audiate" organized by the Creative Education Foundation and the Polish Society of Edwin Elias Gordon in Warsaw. Former member of the Łódź choir of the Polish Academy of Sciences, participant of many archaic singing workshops, a lover of Bulgarian traditional songs. She and her husband are not only a life duet but also a musical performing Balkan music in their own arrangements. A mother of two kids who are the best lifeblood, inspiration and motivation to take on life's next challenges.

The workshop organized by CHOREA is based on intensive acting training. The workshop focuses on waking up the “organicity” of an actor, by working with body, dynamic movement, voice, musicality, rhythm, and on applying all these means of expression simultaneously into a singular, complete artistic act. The workshop is also inspired by the concept of collective actor, based on intensive work with partner, and multidimensional - polyrhythmic and polyphonic - ways of working with the group.
CHOREA's method of work has two main qualities: intensity and risk - both physical and resulting from the necessity to transcend the limits of one's abilities. CHOREA workshop is moving beyond the presentation of techniques and teaching. The workshop leads to activate the creativity of the group and to create authentic, dynamic artistic event.

'Spojrzystość' is a concert inspired by texts of famous Polish poet - Boleslaw Lesmian. The concert is created with polyphonic compositions, based on complex rhythmic structures. Rhythm and musicality are the most important categories in Lesmian's texts - they both create an inseparable and harmonious whole with the poetic word. They create incredibly sensual images and reveal very sensitive soul of their creator.
Beautifully performed vocal and choral parts are joined with elements of body percussion. The choral voices are supported by the hypnotic sounds of viola (Paweł Odorowicz), and ambient sounds of guitar (Maciej Staniecki). Together they create an oneiric and mystic world, filled with the most honest and pure human emotions and desires.

The Theatre Academy of Warsaw and the Łódź-based CHOREA Theatre jointly run a theatre project entitled “Hamlets Case Study”, aimed at shaping the contemporary approach to Shakespeare through Wyspiański’s and Grotowski’s texts.
2nd and 3rd year students of the Theatre Academy’s acting department come together with actors of CHOREA Theatre, under direction of Waldemar Raźniak and Tomasz Rodowicz in an attempt at tackling’s Shakespeare’s Hamlet. They approach it using a variety of texts: an archival collection of writings by Jerzy Grotowski from 1964, entitled „Hamlet Case Study”, reviews and records of actors from the Theatre of 13 Rows, and Stanisław Wyspiański’s „Hamlet Case Study”.
'We wanted to put ourselves in the same place that Grotowski’s group of actors found themselves in over 40 years ago. In the place of an unknown, at a crossroads and facing the imminence of a catastrophe as we are to tackle a great text' (T. Rodowicz)
Preview showings of Raźniak and Rodowicz’s performance were preceeded by a series of rehearsals and physical training evocative of Grotowski’s method, as well as work on Shakespeare’s text and team work on building the dramaturgy of the performance. Actors searched for those fragments in Shakespeare’s play that they found closest to their own experience. The performance goes beyond the narrative of Shakespeare’s drama as it is enriched with the actors’ personal statements about their life choices and their own identity.
The performance is an attempt at answering the question of who is Hamlet in today’s world? What made Grotowski follow Wyspiański in his choice of situating Hamlet in a Polish village, in a cemetery? And, most importantly: can one read Shakespeare today with Grotowski?
'The project alludes to the theatre avant-garde of the 60s, of which Jerzy Grotowski’s Laboratorium theatre was a representatntive. This coincides with the year 2017 being proclaimed the official centenary anniversary of the Polish avant-garde. Yet, we don’t create any reconstrutions of Grotowski’s work. Inspired by the courage and the catastrophe of that attempt from 50 years ago, we search for our own narrative and our own risks. An overcoming of the typical means of theatre production is clear in our approach to all of the texts – Shakespeare, Wyspiański and Grotowski. No one has made such an attempt to date.' (T.Rodowicz)
Preview showings will take place on April 1st and 2nd 2017 as part of the action which is part of the „Dotknij Teatru” [Touch The Theatre] initiative within the International Theatre Day celebrations in Łódź.

CHOREA Theatre
We would like e to invite for a press meeting concerning our International Theatre Festival Retroperspektywy 2018 - Theatre between Words, on 26 June 2018 (Tuesday), at 11:00 am, in Format Club&Cafe, in Art_Inkubator in Fabryka Sztuki in Lodz, (building A), on 3 Tymienieckiego Street.
International Theatre Festival Retroperspektywy is the only festival in Poland that rejects the division of genres and currents and does not grade the artists as proffessionals and amateurs, presenting at the same time the most interesting theatre phenomena which define cultural identity of a modern man. In the events offered such identity is determined by the modern language of art that follows its own ways and search for the references to tradition.
Here in every two years there meet prominent musicians, dancers and masters of word. The latter will be dominant of these year’s edition entitled „Theatre between words”. In various propositions we will meet such artists as Maja Komorowska, Irena Jun and Mariusz Bonaszewski. We will listen to the words of Adam Mickiewicz, Isaac Bashevis Singer, Nikos Kazantzakis, Czesław Miłosz, Wisława Szymborska and Zbigniew Herbert. We will listen to traditional songs and experimental music. We will see the performances, which determine the new thinking about the theatre, that efface the diffrences between the concert and mystery, pageant and ritual. It implements the word into the body, the actor into the song and movement. Theatre signs transmute into senses and the meeting of actors and specators into hope.
Today – among all those enormous tensions and threats – each edition of the Festival consequently presents brilliant accomplishments of world’s theatre, music and dance, that brings the great load of humanism and faith in a human being – something that is essential to put out a dangerously smouldering fuse.
Tomasz Rodowicz
Artistic Director of the International Festival Retroperspektywy
